After creating a hotel room out of a nuclear shelter, this time conceptual artists (and twin brothers) Frank and Patrik Riklin partnered with hospitality professionals to create an open-air hotel bedroom in the Swiss Alps. The room is again part of the Null Stern Hotel and has no walls or ceiling! It is managed by the local residents, whatever that means… The bed is fully booked for the 2016 summer season, but you can reserve for the 2017 summer season! (info@nullsternhotel.ch)

This newsletter pop-up from Betype made me laugh! I love it when humor is used in boring things like a pop-up, or an ‘Error’ page, or a ‘Terms & Conditions’ page. The graphic designers will probably get the joke. For the rest of you, I have to explain that ‘Comic Sans‘ is a font that everyone loves to hate! Most trained designers find it horrible, but at the same time you see it used everywhere, often inappropriately. The child-like handwriting font is so infamous, there is even a movement to try to ban it! Check out also Comic Sans Criminal, a ‘rehabilitation’ site that “helps people like you, learn to use Comic Sans appropriately”!!
Love this series by Annica Lydenberg (aka Dirty Bandits). It is called I‘m a Piece of Garbage and it is made up of items taken from the trash and painted with self deprecating but humorous phrases.

If all animals became round overnight, would their daily life still run that smoothly? This was the question the Swiss-German directing duo, Kyra Buschor and Constantin Peplos, were dealing with whilst working on the concept for the world of “Rollin’ Wild”, which originaly started as a series of four very funny clips. After the successful response, they promised to continue the series.
(thank you Alexandra!)
A Direct Grand Prix in this year’s Cannes Lions festival for the Swedish Tourist Association. In order to honor the anniversary of becoming the first country in the world to introduce a constitutional law to abolish censorship 250 years ago, the Swedish Tourist Association created a phone number where audiences could call up a random Swede, to ask anything they like, generating press all over the world.

I am sure I had seen Serge Bloch‘s whimsical illustrations around, before I knew his name and that he is French. His huge amount of work includes a lot of editorial and book illustrations, but has also done excellent work for advertising campaigns and ads. I love his sense of humor in using everyday objects in a new creative way.
Some funny sushi posters for the Eatery a Japanese food restaurant by Vancouver-based illustrator John Larigakis.
One of my favorite illustrations by letterer Mary Kate McDevitt, created for animations to post online for Mother’s Day by Publix supermarkets – a few years back. The quotes were actually collected from mothers on Publix’s Facebook page.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms everywhere!
Jean Jullien is a French graphic designer and illustrator currently living in London. I first heard about him when he made this illustration for the Paris attacks in November. Since then, I have been following his work on Instagram and especially love his creative and humorous depiction of everyday life.
